Bible Readings for Easter Sunday

You will all know about the limitations imposed on our lives by COVID-19; we all need to keep members of our community safe. For that reason the trustees of Longcot Village Trust (LVT) have decided that they must take their own action to match the government’s advice on how to protect everyone from the coronavirus infection.

So, in common with many local and national organisations, LVT has postponed all of its public events until it is clear that audiences are safe. This means that we will have to:

• Postpone the Trust’s Annual General Meeting until July at the earliest (we are required by the Charity Commission to hold one as a public meeting every year).
• Cancel the evening concert scheduled for 9 May and a second concert that had been suggested for the middle of the summer. We hope that we may be able to schedule an Autumn concert but will have to wait to see how the coronavirus crisis plays out.

On a more positive note we can report that we are making progress with the Community Hub project in St Mary’s! We have had our first grant offer (rapidly accepted) and are waiting for decisions by another 8 or 9 charities.

Finally LVT is looking for a Chairperson to head up the charity and for volunteers who would like to help expand future community activity in the village by becoming a trustee. If you would be interested in contributing to village life in this way please contact Keith Reid the Trust Secretary on keith.e.reid@btinternet.com.

Longcot Village Trust would like to invite you to enter a competition to design a logo for the Trust. The logo must be no larger than A4.

There will be 2 classes – under 16s and over 16s.

All entries must be emailed to lvttreasurer@outlook.com by 20th April and the winner will be announced on 22nd April 2020. The winner from each class will win a £20 Amazon voucher.

An overall winner will then be chosen and the new logo will be used by the Trust.

car crime…

Please lock your cars – there has been an increase of petty theft from cars as it appears because you are at home you are not locking your cars.

Vets …

We have spoken to Elms vets in Faringdon today and they are open for emergencies and will do consultations over the phone – using pictures etc. I have spoken to Court Vets in Stanford and they are also open for emergencies (emergencies also include initial courses of vaccination – first annual booster for puppies and kittens etc). They are also doing online consultations (using photos etc). Boosters for your dog can be left for 3 months past the date suggested for renewal which gives a little time for those needed them soon. Courts Vets are also open for all routine medication (and food) and are accepting payment on the phone and a safe collection from outside. If you are a regular at this vets and need some animal medication bringing back to Longcot only – ask when you phone and pay and you might get a doorstep delivery (can’t promise – but worth a try!)

Millets Farm Shop is open…

Millets is open and is only allowing a few shoppers in at a time but only allows one person per household to shop at a time. Any more and you will be turned away, which is sensible. Taking card only payments. They are also now offering a collection service.

Longcot Play Equipment is now closed.

All play equipment is now no longer available and is closed to the public. The open space is able to be used but the 2 metre guidelines must be adhered to please.

During this uncertain time we can all join together in the community to help our friends and neighbours.

We have printed copies of the postcards to put through the doors of villagers in order to offer help to those that are self isolating.

If you are able to help and would be willing to offer your support for this please email lvttreasurer@outlook.com and it can be arranged for copies of the postcards to be dropped to your home.

If you live in Longcot and are self isolating and would like help with tasks such as shopping, getting urgent supplies such as prescriptions, a friendly phone call, walking a dog or posting mail, until you receive one of the postcards through your door please email lvttreasurer@outlook.com. We will put you in contact with someone who can help.

Longcot Village Trust

This year’s Flower Festival will have a 1940’s theme to celebrate VE Day. Colourful bunting and patriotic colours will create the cheerful atmosphere of a village street party. On the Saturday evening there will be another concert by the Clarinet Collective, a versatile group of professional clarinettists who also work freelance with some of London’s leading orchestras. This year two additional players will be joining last year’s quartet to perform music for clarinet sextet using instruments of varying sizes. The programme will feature timeless classics by Mozart and Ravel alongside popular music from the Twenties, Thirties and Forties, including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and a Glen Miller medley. The concert will finish with the rousing Dambusters March and it promises to be a lively and entertaining evening. Admission free, with a retiring collection in aid of the fund to create a new community space in St. Mary’s.

Date for your diary

Following the fabulous concerts held in 2019. We are pleased to inform you that there will be a Spring Concert at St Mary’s Longcot on Saturday 9th May in the evening. So please save the date. More details to follow shortly

Last Sunday was the carol service at St Mary’s. It was lovely to see the church so full especially with special appearances from the school choir and the bellringers. The church looked beautiful. Thank you to all those who helped make it look so lovely.
