Sunday Service.  There is a Benefice Harvest Festival Service at St John’s Church Fernham tomorrow, so there will be no service at St Mary.  Start time is the 11am.  

Forecast of Services at St Mary.

• Sunday 2^nd October: Our harvest festival service will be a communion by extension led by Richard Fergusson. Start time 9.30am.  (The flower arrangers will be decorating the church on Thursday 29^th September from around 10am.)
• Sunday 9^th October: Service of Holy Communion led by the Revd Norma Fergusson.  Start time 9.30am.  
• Sunday 16^th October: Morning Prayer led by Richard Fergusson. Start time 9.30am.  

Local Villages Newsletter For October.  Please find attached the October edition of the local villages newsletter.  I would draw your attention to pages 5 & 6, which provide details of the next concert by the Torriano Ensemble in St Mary’s Church on Sunday 16^th October.  Please reserve your tickets through Vicky.

Stan Hutchings – RIP.  Some of you may remember Stan Hutchings (a former churchwarden of St Mary), who died in August.  His nephew, Neil Gerring, is walking the Cotswold Way in memory of his uncle Stan on 27th September, and raising money for the Royal British Legion, a cause close to Stan’s heart. Ten people enjoyed Flowers for Fun a flower arranging demonstration and workshop in the Village Hub in St Mary’s Church on Saturday. Shirley Dalton-Morris talked through basics and tips while arranging two designs before everybody had a chance to produce these decorative arrangements using a baked bean tin! to take home. The consensus was an enjoyable morning, the church worked well for such an event and it was good to meet new people from the village. Slightly surprised Ride & Striders found the church full of activity as they signed in and enjoyed a welcome drink. A Christmas Fun with Flowers may be coming!

It was great to see so many people turn up for the Jubilee Picnic on Friday, the money raised will be a massive help to the village trust. Hopefully now that Covid is going away, the village can host more of these events for you to enjoy.

Opening of the Longcot Village Community Hub in St Mary’s Church.   Thank you to everybody who attended and helped out at the opening of the Community Hub last Sunday.  It was a lovely event and was made extra special by all those who contributed their time and effort to make it so.  As Lucy explains in her e-mail below, she has just received photographs of the opening, so has included some of them in the Newsletter.

Sunday Pentecost Service at St Mary, Longcot.  This Sunday’s service will be Holy Communion by extension and will be led by Richard Fergusson.  Start time is the usual 9.30am.   In common with many parts of the Oxford Diocese we will be offering communion in two kinds again from Sunday (wafer and wine) but it is a personal decision whether you want to take the common cup or continue to take just the wafer.  Please see the Newsletter for further details.

Formal Opening of the Longcot Village Community Hub in St Mary’s Church – Sunday 29^th May. Holy Communion will be led by the Archdeacon of Dorchester at St Mary The Virgin Longcot tomorrow and will be followed by the formal opening of the Community Hub by the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire. Full details are contained in the Newsletter.

Clarinet Collective Concert – 6.30pm Saturday 21^st May in St Mary.  Just a last reminder about the concert tonight.  The bar opens at 6pm and the concert starts at 6.30pm. There are some places left, so please remember to e-mail Vicky Medcalf (victorialmedcalf@gmail.com) if you wish to attend. The church flower team have done a wonderful job of producing a ‘Rose, Leek, Thistle and Shamrock’ set of themed arrangements.  Some photos of them are on the back page of the Newsletter.

Sunday’s Service at St Mary.  Sunday’s service in St Mary will be Holy Communion and will be led by the Revd Norma Fergusson.  The service starts at the normal time of 9.30am.

Formal Opening of the Longcot Village Community Hub in St Mary’s Church – Sunday 29^th May. The formal opening of the Community Hub is just one week away. Details are contained in the Benefice Newsletter and have also been posted on-line and on noticeboards around the village.

Longcot with Fernham PCC

The new Community Hub in St Mary’s Church, Longcot is being

opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Marjorie Neasham

Glasgow BEM, on Sunday 29th May. There will be a Service of Holy

Communion at 11am led by The Archdeacon of Dorchester, Judy

French. All are welcome but due to seating constraints

there is a limit on numbers, so please contact

Keith Reid or Dennis Blease to book a seat.

After the service ends there will be a 10-minute window between

12.10-12.20pm for other villagers who wish to join the

congregation and the Lord-Lieutenant will then formally open the

Community Hub at 12.20pm. This will be an opportunity to look at

the new facilities, enjoy some light refreshments and watch

bellringing from the new gallery. No booking is required and, again,

all are welcome.

The Longcot Jubilee Picnic

To celebrate the Queen’s 70^th Jubilee we invite you to The Longcot Jubilee Picnic.

In association with Longcot Village Trust on Friday 3^rd June we’ll be hanging the bunting out on the village green and hoping for beautiful weather.

Between 12 and 3pm bring a picnic to join friends and family to celebrate. There will be activities on the day including a children’s Jubilee Bonnet parade and competition, face painting and much more.

Formal Opening of the Longcot Village Community Hub in St Mary’s Church – 29^th May.  Hopefully you will all have the date of the opening of the Community Hub in your diaries.  The opening will be preceded by a Holy Communion starting at 11am.  The Archdeacon of Dorchester will give the sermon.  After the service there will be a short break for other members of the village to join us and then the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire will conduct the formal opening at around 12.15pm.  We are now at the stage where we need volunteers to step forward and help organise the event.  Would potential volunteers please make contact with either Keith or me to offer their services.  Thank you in advance.
